For day 228 of 365 Days Wild I spent some time watching and sketching the blackbirds in the garden.

Usually I’d include some photos as well, but I didn’t manage to get a single clear picture the whole time I was watching them.

By the time I was done, I had three little blackbirds on a page of my sketchpad.

After I finished sketching I decided to try a larger picture of the bird table surrounded by all of the garden birds that fly into our garden. This picture ended up taking me far longer to complete than I’d expected. I abandoned my first attempt after adding some ink to the sketch. It just wasn’t quite right. The bird table was wonky and there just wasn’t enough detail on the different birds on the hangers.

My second attempt was more successful.

Once I’d completed inking it, I added some colour using watercolour paint.

Here are a few close ups of the birds. There are right different species, all of which visit our garden. Can you recognise any of them?

That’s all for today. Have you been inspired by nature recently? Let me know in the comments below.
Excellent drawings without the use of photography it seems

Thanks, Derrick. I did make liberal use of a whole host of Google pictures in order to fill in the details, such as wing and tail shape and positioning!

I love these Louise. The Long tailed tits are particularly active at the moment, although they don’t hang around for long!
