For the Love of Bees

I adore bees. I love to watch them, I love to photograph them, and I particularly love to draw them. This picture of a Buff-tailed Bumble Bee was drawn for day 33 of 365 Days Wild and is based on one of the photos that I snapped for day 32. The picture came into existence, as you might be able to see above, at a slightly strange angle in my sketch book. I’m not sure why. It just sort of grew that way.

Here it is straightened up.

My initial plan had actually been to make another dried flower creation with drawn on minibeasts. I began by drawing the bee, the rest were then going to follow… Next time I need to try and make the bee a little smaller, otherwise it will look like we’ve been invaded by giants!

In case anyone is curious, I always begin by drawing the wings and then build up from there. Which is where the size issue comes in. If the wings are too large, the rest of the bee will also be too large.Β

Here’s a close up of the bee.

This is the picture from yesterday that it’s based on.

    1. Thank you, Elisabeth. Drawing has always been a favourite hobby, though I haven’t spent much time doing it in recent years. It’s great to spend some time with a sketch pad and pencils again. πŸ˜€

  1. I love the photograph of the bee! I also love bees and the sound of their droning as they collect honey. I particularly love the big bumblebees balancing on the delicate flowers of larkspur.
