About

I’m Louise, a writer, poet and photographer who enjoys spending my days out and about along the lanes and in the meadows of my local area. I’ve spent a lot of my time in particular over the last few years following the seasonal changes within a village nature project, as it has developed from an old and neglected farmer’s field into a vibrant wildflower meadow.

A few years ago my sister and I began a website,The Rooter, reporting on positive environmental news stories. I wrote quite a lot of articles for this before I found myself trying to run it on my own when my sister pulled out. Instead of continuing with it on a separate site, I scaled it back and uploaded the articled to here.

Sometimes I create art – watercolour and acrylic paintings, pastel sketches, and embroidered felt pictures, to name a few – inspired by nature.

I also write stories.

Most years I join in with NaNoWriMo and CampNaNo. I have multiple novels that are 1st, and sometimes even 2nd, drafted, and hope to have at least one of these published soon. I love to join in with flash fiction challenges, though I haven’t done so often over the last few years. I do keep getting ideas, however…

    1. You’re welcome – you have a lovely blog with some beautiful pictures. As for pursuing what I love, it was a hard step to take but it’s well worth it in terms of personal happiness. Good luck in your own endeavours!

  2. Good for you for taking the plunge to do what feeds your soul! It’s scary but the only way to live the life you’re meant to live. I *love* your face-painting!

    Cheers, and happy storytelling

    1. Thank you! It was a very scary step to take but so far it is proving worth it – if only for my mental state! I love face painting so it’s always good to hear people like it. I’m actually planning to create a new page on my blog showing a selection of designs. And you’re welcome for the follow – I love seeing the different places you’ve visited. Someday I’d love to travel the world…

    1. Most definitely not! I myself am most definitely still a child at heart. Even the kid’s I work with laugh when I say I’m allowed to do something because I’m a grown up – they tell me I’m not. 😀

    1. You’re very welcome! I’d love to sail (I’ve always had a fascination for the sea) but I doubt I’ll have the opportunity to do so any time soon. Looking at your pictures and reading the tales of your adventures allows me to live it vicariously through you! Thank you for your kind words. 🙂

  4. The Orples and I wish you the best of luck with your lovely illustrations and wonderful story lines. Creating is the easy part, it seems; marketing, with all of the competition, is the real trick. I hope the right eyes see your work and make it a household work—mine too. 😉

  5. Love your page and thank you for taking a look at mine and for following 🙂 If you live in Northern Cal, I know MANY parks and rec practitioners who use facepainters as well as the Sacramento Library for storytellers.

    1. Thank you, Terri, but I’m afraid I live in England – it would be quite a commute to get to jobs over there! And I enjoyed wandering through your blog, so you’re welcome. 🙂 Thanks for visiting.

      1. It’s funny because some of the countryside you photographed looks like the Sacramento area and you mentioned very little rain. There are also two local communities called Newark and Lincoln! Yes, that would be a LONG commute!

    1. You’re welcome and thank you! I’m loving the One Four Challenge so far. Never having done any photo-editing before joining in with it last month, I’m learning so much. 🙂

  6. Do you have any interest in participating in a B&W challenge?
I am in search of a few people to invite. It requires 5 B&W photos over 5 days…and the task of inviting a different person each day.

  7. Thank you for stopping by my blog and for following! I am honored you have chosen to do so and I look forward to seeing more on your blog as well. I think you have an excellent idea in the Storyteller’s Abode and it is something you are happy doing and making a difference in the lives of others. I know parents and grandparents will love something like this for their children. Have you thought about partnering up with libraries and maybe venturing into some kind of career type role playing for older children? Glad to meet you here!

    1. It’s nice to meet you too! I’m very glad you like my blog. Its always reassuring to find people who think my ideas are good ones. I have lots of different plans for taking it into libraries and schools and for expanding out in different areas, my problem at the moment is in getting them past the planning stage. The whole thing is very much in the early stages and there just aren’t enough hours in the day! Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  8. Don’t recall if I told you I invited you to participate in the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge. If you take the challenge you just post daily for 5 days a photo and a piece of writing that relates, any style writing. I had to wait a couple of weeks while on vacation before I started my challenge. You can find out more about it on my site. No obligation. Here are 2 posts that tell you about the challenge at the end of each.

      1. I waited a few weeks before I had time to commit to it. I’m thinking I need to create several posts anyway to store for when I don’t have time to post and use them then. The challenge really sharpened me at making daily posts quickly, like I did when I wrote feature stories for a news paper. But it takes time.

  9. Let the story telling continue, there will be more listeners over a period of time.
You are doing it for children, and being a child there is no bar regarding age.
    Stories /Painting /Designing is a wonderful combination.
    Success is Guaranteed!!!
    Congrats !!!!
    Thumbs Up!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Sorry about the delay in replying – I just found this is my spam file! Thank you for the nomination but I recently made the decision to turn my blog award-free. I never seem to have the time for award posts. I will go and check out your post though. 🙂

Following you now, as you may have seen.

Your paintings are amazing – the lack-of-creativity side of me is in awe! Good luck with your vision!
