I’m curious to know what you think the character is doing in the arena. Is he a sports star? A pop idol? Or maybe he’s selling hot dogs in the stands? The perfect life comes in many shapes and forms…
An Enchanted Place 
My first thought was a gladiator-type arena. It may be that I’ve been reading too much dark stuff lately…;)

I think, perhaps he is one that sells things since it is mentioned that he has had many different jobs over the years…he probably feels the excitement of the crowd and enjoys the thrill of being a part of it and helping them enjoy it as well by offering something like food or some type of merchandise.
