Whilst fashions change and technology takes flight on wings of wonder, still men and women continue to gather, summoned by the haunting cry of the train’s whistle. Eyes wide, captivated by the remembrance of a simpler time; ashes are brushed off shoulders, as darker truths are brushed from minds.

This is my entry into Cee’s Black and White Challenge. This week’s theme is signs.

As soon as I spotted this week’s theme I knew which pictures I could post. I’ve been thinking about using these for a Which Way post for a while now!

All of these photos were taken in Grosmont on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, an 18 mile long heritage railway in the North of England. As I’ve probably mentioned before, I have a nephew who’s been obsessed with trains since he was a tot. Any holiday we go on together involves a visit to a train line at some point. I have a lot of photographs of trains and stations. These are from the year we visited Whitby.

050714-black-and-white-4I felt rather guilty for doing a whole post about a railway and not including a single picture of a train or engine, so here’s a little treat to finish off. It has a number plate. That’s a sign, right…?

    1. That sign gave us all a giggle when we saw it! I’m glad you like the text. That was a very last minute addition. The post was just going to be the pictures. 🙂
