Butterfly

butterfly 2 small

On ephemeral wings

she flits,

never settling for

long:

never long enough to

catch her,

never long enough to

bind her

back into the cocooned

existence she’s

fled.

    1. Thank you, Mandi. 🙂 I’m glad you like them. I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few months watching (and trying to photograph) the butterflies on the wildflower meadow!

    1. I’m glad you like them, Ali. 🙂 Photographing flying insects takes a lot of patience! I’ve found the butterflies particularly hard to photograph this year. Only the meadow browns stay in place when I get close to them, and they rest with their wings closed you can’t see the patterned parts! As well as the Tortoiseshell and the Speckled Wood butterflies in the post I’ve also spotted Red Admirals, Large Whites, Orange Tipped and Commas. Unfortunately all I’ve managed to photograph are blurs as they fly away!

    1. Thanks, Linnea. 🙂 Butterflies are one of my favourites, too – they’re only beaten by bees! They tend to be a recurring motif in my poetry. I have a friend with a phobia of butterflies who actually decided to get a tattoo of one after I told her about their symbolism!
