Memories

“We’d spend hours down here, remember?” she said, gazing across at the familiar view, her memories dancing as ethereal spectres upon the sports field.

They’d been such joy filled hours, packed with fun and games: skipping and jumping and turning cartwheels; running until breathless, before tumbling in a heap on the grass; vibrant laughter strengthening their bond even further.

Her brother didn’t answer – he hadn’t been able to since the accident – but she could see the spark of happy memories cavorting behind his eyes, too.

  1. Too sad…I’m all about hope and happiness these days…but maybe those hopeful sentiments are right around the corner of your story…I just need to read a little further.

    1. I was originally planning to have the brother be dead, so I’d say that him being alive leaves at least a little hope! Thanks for visiting, Jeanne.

  2. A very heartfelt story! Memories are truly a blessing, we have the opportunity to relive some very special moments. Of course, it can be a negative thing, but we can try to block out those and flood our thoughts with the positive ones.

    1. It’s always best to focus on the positives, though it’s not always easy to do. I’m glad you enjoyed the story, Jessie. 🙂
