Recurring Nightmare

Her nightmare was always the same. The table was set and decorated, but something about the scene felt wrong… Only the sound of the doorbell caused realisation to strike – Mother was coming to dinner, and the tablecloths hadn’t been ironed!

    1. I only noticed it myself when I was reading someone else’s post. Only the bottom part of the picture was visible on my screen, and it pretty much leapt out at me! Thanks for reading Jeanne. 🙂

  1. oh what a panic I would be in too. But maybe I would be quick on replying, ” Thought that was the style these days, shabby chic meets classic”. Lovely 3 lines Lou!

      1. A rebel I see, well to be really honest it depends on who is coming for dinner, if it was someone I needed to impress then maybe I would get the old iron out, if it were family they know me, it’s all about the food only!

    1. Indeed! Though whether actually she’d be as annoyed by the lack of ironed tabelcloths as her daughter thinks, is another matter entirely! Thanks for visiting, Chioma. 🙂

  2. Very sad to have nightmares about your mother coming and that your table isn’t perfect! I guess all daughters have something they are afraid their mother will find wrong. Wonderful TLT, Louise!

    1. I imagine the mother in this relationship to be a very strict lady, who’s very particular on the details. Living up to her expectations is not easy for her daughter. I, on the other hand, would probably set my table like that on purpose… and then wait for the raised eyebrow from my mum. 😀 Thanks for reading, PJ.

  3. I like to think that perhaps she has not had a visit from her mother since she set up housekeeping for herself and was on edge about getting everything perfect for her mother’s first impression! It’s amazing how your nerves can affect your body.Hopefully, her mother will be very pleased with whatever her daughter has chosen to do in preparing for her visit. Great story with a lot of possibilities for reasons of her nightmares. 🙂
