FFfAW: Seeing is Believing

Seeing is Believing

“Did you see that?”

“What?”

“That sign – the dinosaur – it moved!”

“Don’t be daft.”

“I swear… There! You must have seen that.”

“Come on, Callie.” An arm was slung over her shoulders. “It’s late and you’ve had too much to drink. Let’s get home.”

Callie shrugged off the restrictive contact. “I’m not drunk. I know what I saw.”

“Cal-”

“Don’t treat me like an idiot, Fi.”

Fiona shook her head, walking away. “Then don’t act like one.”

Callie glared at her sister’s back before casting another glance at the metallic sign.

The dinosaur was gone.

“Er… Fiona..?”

“I hope you’re ready to talk sense.”

Callie didn’t look at the older girl as she backed away from the sign. Her gaze swept the shadows, searching for any hint of movement.

“Run!”

Even as she turned, teetering on too high heels, she knew it was too late. The dinosaur descended in a mass of teeth and claws.

The last sound Callie heard was her own scream.

As with last week’s FFfAW story I seem to be channelling the strange mind of the wonderful Draliman again. He did warn me that doing so is a slippery slope – that before I know it I’ll be killing off all my characters… Hmm… Oops! If you haven’t ever read any of his stories, go and do so. They’re an absolute scream. 🙂

In my last post I wrote three different six word stories for the Sometimes Stellar Storyteller’s challenge and asked for people to vote for their favourite, with the story that received the most votes being the one I’d post to the challenge page. Well, it took longer than I’d expected to find the answer as #1 and #2 seemed to be equally popular! At today’s final count, however, #1 has eleven votes, #2 has nine votes and #3 has just the one. This is the six word story that will be posted on the page:

Empty swing creaks: a mother weeps.

To see what other people have written check out Nicola’s challenge page. All entries are posted in the comments where you can leave a like for your favourite.

    1. The last couple of prompts haven’t really lent themselves to my usual style of story but I’ve enjoyed writing the dialogue and just seeing where the characters take me. These stories have taken far less time to write than my usual ones! I’m glad you enoyed it, PJ. 🙂

  1. Oh, wow! What a thrill Louise. I enjoyed this a lot! Callie almost reminds me of Dr. Claire from Jurassic World when she was running with those high heels. XD

    1. Thanks, Maria. I’m very glad you liked it! I’ve not seen Jurassic World yet but I’ll look out for Dr. Claire when I watch it. 🙂

  2. Ah, two dimensional dinosaurs coming to life. How can you not love that story? And it seems the consequences of disbelief will be harsh. Such is life. Nice job as always, Louise. 🙂
