Photography 101 – Swarm

 roots

Reaching

A writhing,
coiling mass,
a swarm
slithering in serpentine
formations
out of the darkness of
concealing earth,
into sunlight,
in search of
nourishment,
tendrils stretching
in longing
for richer soils.

I have to confess that today’s pictures were actually taken a few months ago. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really happy with anything I took today. Nothing inspired me. These, however…

    1. Thank you:) The snake connection came to me as soon as I looked at the pictures. I was getting quite worried about what I was going to use for today until I saw them!

    1. Thank you. The poem almost wrote itself! As soon as I saw the photo in the folder, the words insisted on being written down. My notebook is always there next to me. 🙂

  1. Yes, great work! I am totally struggling with today’s theme. Mostly because it is raining and I left the swarms of people behind for open vast space, this summer. Your poem slithers and crawls beautifully and what a great interpretation of swarm. LOVE.

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you like it. 🙂 I actually feel a little guilty dipping into my archives again. I like to use newly taken pictures when possible – that way I can actually put the photo101 tips into play, but sometimes its just not possible.

      1. I wish I could say I have had the opportunity to take photos on the day of. I have made a point of taking photographs all weekend, hoping that a theme will match! It is the best I can do at this moment. I have learned a lot in the tips though, and I am diving further into learning Lightroom…what a place to get lost 🙂

      2. I’m lucky I have week days ‘off’ – though I’m supposed to be painting pictures and writing stories for my business on these days, which I haven’t done much of since starting photo101! I love Photoshop! I currently have a trial of CC which is great, even if I’m still only using the most basic things. It runs out soon, though. I need to decide whether I really need the full package or whether Elements will be enough for what I’m doing!

  2. I think as long as we TRIED today, it’s OK to use older photos! I, too, took photos to try to convey the idea of a swarm, but none of them ended up having the right shape or feel for me. No guilt!
